This is a fascinating miniature species found in a very remote/small region of N. Vietnam and possibly China. Very rare in the wild but incredibly robust in cultivation. Plants are found growing on vertical limestone cliffs, often times with no moss around the roots.

Species can grow much drier and brighter than most would think considering the size. The species flowers in October, typically after the heavy Monsoon season begins to subside. Plants are seedling of my 2 best helenae. (Baker’s little sunshine x Mad Hatter).

Plants are near BS in 2.25″ pots.

Paphiopedilum  parishii

Paphiopedilum parishii

Paphiopedilum parishii

A spectacular species found from N. Thailand and China typically growing epiphytically/on trees with the roots embedded in moss. Plants can grow in about the most diverse conditions of any other Paphiopedilum species, taking Winter temps into the high 30’s and Summer highs in the 90’sF. Plants need to be grown in a very well draining media and air flow is of exceptional importance. Although the species can tolerate the conditions above, the cool period is not necessary to initiate flowering. Plants bloom on long arching inflorescences and can have as many as 5-14 flowers per stem.

These plants have been blooming with very dark purple, almost black petals.  Plants are blooming size in 4″-5″ pots, single and multi-growth plants available.

Seedlings in 2.25″ pots also available

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum

The king of the Paphiopedilums! This species is one of the most highly coveted and impressive species ever discovered. Plants can take upwards of a decade to become flowering size from seedling but once blooming size are very easy to cultivate and will produce new growths rapidly and flower yearly on tall flower spikes with 4-6 flowers per stem. Blooming size plants benefit from a slight cooling off period around Jan-February to help initiate flower spikes from spring-Summer.

The flowers are often upwards of  12″ across/NS, heavily veined with deep burgundy stripes and have a red to deep almost purple pouch. Just incredible!!!

Plants are in 5-6″ pots with multiple growths and all are blooming size.

Paphiopedilum sanderianum

Paphiopedilum sanderianum

Paphiopedilum sanderianum

This is a species that was rediscovered in the 1980’s and had been literally lost for over a 100 years. The existence of this species was thought to be a myth until its rediscovery. Paph. sanderainum is just an extraordinary species and is endemic to a very small area of Borneo. The species grows on limestone cliffs in very warm, humid conditions and received a tremendous amount of rainfall throughout the year.

In cultivation I have found this species to be a bit easier to cultivate and flower than many suggest. This species will grow very well in intermediate conditions and does seem to benefit greatly from strong, intense sunlight and copious amounts of watering throughout the year. This species is also notorious for taking a very long time to flower but will flower on single growth plants once they mature to about 18″ across.

Plants are NBS in 4″ pots, likely 12-18 months from flowering.

Another very easy species to cultivate and flower; plants can take very diverse methods of cultivation and flourish, but do prefer rather moist conditions. The foliage is quite unique with this species and is a dark silver green with interesting and very beautiful mottling.

Plants are in 3.25″-4″ pots and all are multi-growth blooming size.
